Story behind the artwork

Every great connection starts with a spark. Years ago, I used to host "Blacksmithing Experience Days"—workshops where people could feel the heat of the forge and the weight of the hammer for the first time. It was during one of these sessions that I met Amanda Lebus, an established artist who had come to the forge to learn alongside her nephew. At the time, I didn't realize that this meeting between a teacher and a student would eventually evolve into a sophisticated professional partnership.

The Vision: Time passed, and Amanda approached me with a unique challenge. She needed a handrail for her father’s home, but she didn’t want a standard fixture. She needed a piece of functional art. As an artist herself, Amanda brought a clear, inspired vision to the table. She provided the intricate design, and my role was to become the "translator"—to take her lines on paper and forge them into the permanent strength of steel.

The Execution: The Fifty-Three Handrail is a study in balance. In the forge, my task was to ensure that while the form remained artistic and expressive, it never sacrificed its primary purpose: to be a sturdy, reliable guide for the hand.

When working on a piece like this, the ego of the blacksmith must step aside to honor the vision of the designer. Every curve had to be precise, every weld invisible. It is a testament to what happens when two different artistic perspectives meet at the anvil to create something that is as beautiful as it is necessary.

The stories behind my artwork, the opportunities in The Lighthouse, and the reflections of the Morning Muse are my ways of keeping the lamp lit for our creative community. These resources will always be free to access. If they have found you at the right time, consider fueling the forge to help keep the fire burning. Your support, in any amount, is deeply appreciated.
