Story behind the artwork
This piece comes from an important era in my journey where I was actively pushing the boundaries of material combination. At the time, I was fascinated by the contrast and dialogue between different metals, specifically iron and brass, and how they could coexist in one structure.
The concept for Spring Flower Tattoo was not born from looking at nature, but from the landscape of my own imagination. The organic forms in this piece are intentionally varied and surreal; they are not meant to reflect the flowers we see in our fields, but rather a species that exists only in my imagined world.
To achieve the distinct look of this work, I utilized the raw and unpredictable method of burning oil in fire, which gave the metals their unique character. Originally, during a very active period of exhibitions, I had envisioned creating a new 'iteration' of this imagined flower every year—an ongoing series of organic evolutions. Though life took me down other creative paths and I haven’t yet continued the series, the door remains open to revisiting it one day.
For me, the most compelling part of making art is transforming abstract illusions into physical realities. My work is like telling a story that the listener cannot yet even imagine—a narrative whispered in my mind that I then give shape, weight, and a place in the real world.
The stories behind my artwork, the opportunities in The Lighthouse, and the reflections of the Morning Muse are my ways of keeping the lamp lit for our creative community. These resources will always be free to access. If they have found you at the right time, consider fueling the forge to help keep the fire burning. Your support, in any amount, is deeply appreciated.
