Story behind the artwork

"Every commission begins with a problem. My client had a section of his garden he wanted to hide—a visual distraction that broke the peace of his outdoor space. We decided that instead of a simple wall, we would create a piece of art: a forged screen of organic leaves that would breathe with the garden."

The Inspiration: Barcelona & Antoni Gaudí"

To prepare for this work, I traveled to Barcelona. I wanted to stand before Casa Milà, the masterpiece of architect Antoni Gaudí. I studied his famous forged balconies, which were created under his direct supervision to ensure they captured a living, organic form. While my work is not a copy, it is a deeply personal interpretation of that Gaudí spirit—the idea that steel can grow as naturally as a vine."

The Installation: A Winter Surprise

"We installed the piece just before Christmas. My client had chosen a vibrant orange-yellow finish. It was a cold, gloomy, and overcast day; the garden was bare, and the trees were grey. Against that bleak winter backdrop, the sculpture glowed like a trapped sun. To me, it was magnificent—a bold defiance of the winter gloom."

The Conflict: Artist vs. Environment

"However, art is always seen through different eyes. When the client’s wife saw the bright installation, her reaction was immediate: it was too loud for her vision of the garden. She insisted it be repainted. Though I loved the 'sunlight' it brought to the grey day, I respected the client's wish."

"The piece was eventually repainted in neutral, earthy tones—the colors of natural, dried leaves. Today, it stands as a 'camouflage' piece, blending seamlessly into the foliage. It changed from a centerpiece that demanded attention to a quiet guardian of the garden’s privacy."
