Story behind the artwork
This work was born as a "by-product" of the larger Holocaust Memorial installation. While cutting the figures for the main sculpture from a large sheet of iron, I was left with the negative space—the voids where the people used to be. I couldn't bring myself to simply discard these remnants; they felt just as significant as the figures themselves.
To give this steel new life and meaning, I integrated it with miniature concrete pillars and hand-forged barbed wire. While the main sculpture focuses on the people, this wall-mounted piece emphasizes the architecture of the camps—the cold, industrial reality of the fences and the empty spaces left behind by those who were taken.
Though this is a free-standing object in its construction, it is designed to be mounted directly onto a wall. It serves as a smaller, intimate reflection of the larger story.
