Story behind the artwork

In Relationship is a free-standing sculpture that bridges the gap between fine art and decorative interior design. While it serves as a functional light, its true purpose is to spark a conversation about how we connect with one another.

The inspiration for this piece comes from the complex reality of partnership. Every relationship—whether it is a romantic one at home or a professional one at work—is built on the foundation of communication. It is about the constant flow of talking, arguing, and listening.

I’ve observed that so many relationships begin to fade when the communication turns "cold." When people stop talking, they often realize they no longer have anything to say to the person standing next to them. You can try to work on it, but I personally believe that interest cannot be forced. You can pretend to be interested for a short time, but for a relationship to truly live, the connection must be authentic. If it’s faked, it eventually withers.

To reflect this, I chose a striking visual contrast: a silver platinum finish set against a deep matte black base. It represents the light and the shadows found in every human bond.

Versatility: Currently, this piece is fitted with an interior light, casting a warm glow that emphasizes the textures of the iron. However, like much of my work, the structure itself is durable. With a simple change to an exterior-grade lighting fixture, In Relationship can be moved from the intimacy of a living room to an outdoor setting, where it can weather the elements just as we weather the challenges of our own connections.
