Story behind the artwork
The Lost Details "Looking back, I have a confession to make. Years ago, when I was at the anvil every day, I never imagined that one day I would want to share the stories behind my hammer blows. I didn’t keep journals or detailed notes, and sometimes, the specifics fade. This project, Infinity, is one I reflect on with a mix of pride and a slight touch of regret for not documenting it better."
The Commission: A Scholar’s Vision "A student of sculpture from the 'University of the Third Age' approached me with a profound request. She needed a collaborator to help realize her final thesis project—a piece that would eventually find its place in the Museum of Technology in Cambridge. It was a high-honor commission that required both technical precision and philosophical sensitivity."
The Concept: Infinite Being "I named the work Infinity. As I remember it, the piece was meant to symbolize the endless nature of existence. It explored the idea that while our physical presence on Earth is temporary (our 'transience'), our essence or 'being' does not simply vanish. Instead, it continues to circulate through the vastness of the universe. Like energy in physics or the soul in meditation, it never truly ends; it only changes form."
The Reflection "Forging Infinity was like trying to capture the cosmos in cold steel. Even if my memory of our exact conversations has softened over time, the feeling remains: we were creating a monument to the idea that nothing is ever truly lost. It stands as a reminder to me now that every piece of art carries a legacy far beyond the workshop walls."
