Story behind the artwork
A Piece of Home "A returning client once brought me a heavy, industrial object with a deep personal history: a chimney flange from his family home in Scotland. He wanted to display it on his wall as a piece of art, but the large, empty hole in the center felt like a void. He asked me, 'What can we put inside?'"
The Concept: The Geometric Sky "As I looked at the circular iron frame, I saw a moon. I decided to fill that void with a composition I call 'The Moon Hidden Behind Clouds.' However, I wanted to avoid the obvious. Instead of the soft, puffy clouds we see in children's drawings, I chose a more abstract, angular form. I forged the clouds with sharp edges and geometric lines, creating a modern contrast to the old, weathered flange."
Art as Decoration "This project is a perfect example of how art and decoration can blur into one. My contribution was decorative, yes, but the artistic intent changed the entire energy of the object. It was no longer just a piece of a chimney; it became a framed window into a metallic sky."
The Alchemy of the Old and New "I love these kinds of challenges. Taking a piece of someone's past—something cold and functional—and filling it with a story. It brings a new vibration to the place where it is installed, turning a memory into a conversation piece."
The stories behind my artwork, the opportunities in The Lighthouse, and the reflections of the Morning Muse are my ways of keeping the lamp lit for our creative community.
