THE LIGHTHOUSE
⚒️ Friday Lighthouse: The 11th International Sculpture Symposium (Differdange, Luxembourg)
Category: The Showcase / International Monumental Open Call
The Opportunity: The City of Differdange, in coordination with international monumental sculpture networks, is inviting professional sculptors from across the globe to apply for an elite on-site monumental building symposium. Over a high-intensity period, selected international artists are brought to Luxembourg to execute a permanent public installation.
The 2026/2027 Theme: "The Weight of the Horizon"—focusing on raw scale, industrial strength, and structural connection to the earth.
The "Lighthouse" Advantage: They provide the massive raw mediums (such as block granite and heavy industrial structural materials) along with full technical support, lifting cranes, and heavy machinery operators on-site. For a sculptor who blends the heat of the forge with monumental architecture, this is the ultimate platform to build an massive European landmark without paying for the overhead.
The Benefit: Fully funded. The residency provides free accommodation, all meals covered, and an unconditional €3,000 artist honorarium paid directly upon completion. The finished monument is permanently installed in the city's public squares or industrial sculpture parks.
Maker Level: Advanced / Professional.
Deadline: Friday 10th July 2026.
The "Gate-Crasher" Status:
The Portal: The official registration documents are hosted on local municipal sheets at differdange.lu and specialized international monument boards.
The "Fail-Safe" Key: International juries managing heavy municipal machinery are looking for artists who can work quickly, decisively, and safely under industrial factory conditions.
Direct Action: Do not simply submit generic studio work. Send an aggregated "Heavy Scale Portfolio" showcasing your ability to design base connections, forge architectural joints, or handle structural loads.
Direct Contact: culture@differdange.lu (Attn: International Sculpture Symposium Committee).
The Pitch: "I am an international sculptor-blacksmith specializing in monumental public installations. I am submitting my portfolio for the 11th International Sculpture Symposium. My work focuses on integrating heavy forged steel components with structural stone. I am fully experienced working alongside machine operators and rigging crews, ensuring that a monumental public piece can be forged and anchored securely within the symposium's timeline."
The stories behind my artwork, the opportunities in The Lighthouse, and the reflections of the Morning Muse are my ways of keeping the lamp lit for our creative community. These resources will always be free to access. If they have found you at the right time, consider fueling the forge to help keep the fire burning. Your support, in any amount, is deeply appreciated.
