  • The Opportunity: Artists & Illustrators Magazine is running its national open call for The British Art Prize 2026.

  • The "Lighthouse" Advantage: This is a major national prize with no single strict medium constraint. The brief explicitly calls for a massive variety of expressions—welcoming painting, structural textiles, original prints, and mixed media. For visual artists who like to bridge multiple physical mediums (like combining metals, fabrics, or textures), this is an open arena where creativity and technical skill are highly prioritized over simple categorization.

  • The Prizes/Benefits: Over £10,000 in total prizes are on the line. The overall winner secures a £2,000 cash prize, a dedicated solo exhibition at Panter and Hall's Cecil Court Gallery in London, and a massive 6-page feature in the national magazine. Additionally, all shortlisted artists get their physical works displayed in a major curated group exhibition at London's prestigious OXO Gallery from October 21–25, 2026.

  • Maker Level: Open to all levels—amateur, emerging, or professional.

  • Deadline: Friday 7th August 2026 at 5:00 PM BST.

The "Gate-Crasher" Status:

  • The Portal: Submissions are processed through the official entry dashboard at artopps.co.uk/britishartprize26.

  • The Requirements: Each artwork must not exceed a size limit of 275cm x 275cm (including framing) and must not project more than 50cm from the wall. AI-generated elements are strictly forbidden. The registration entry fee is £24 for the first artwork and £19 for any subsequent entries.
