THE LIGHTHOUSE
⚒️ The Showcase: The RBSA Prize 2026 Exhibition
Category: The Showcase / National Mixed Media Exhibition & Contemporary Art Prize
The Opportunity: The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists has officially opened its flagship biennial call for The RBSA Prize 2026. This historic institution explicitly designs this exhibition to celebrate cutting-edge, innovative contemporary art, pulling talent from all across the country to stand before top-tier collectors and industry professionals.
The "Lighthouse" Advantage: This is an open-media, boundary-pushing contemporary arena. The judging panel is actively seeking work that "shines a light on contemporary practice and pushes boundaries." This means it is highly receptive to bold sculpture, heavy physical textures, and complex mixed media—giving artists who weave unexpected physical materials together a substantial edge over safe, traditional drawing formats.
The Prizes/Benefits: The headline awards feature significant cash prizes, including a £1,000 First Prize cash reward, alongside £500 and £250 runner-up rewards, plus multiple Highly Commended gallery certifications. Most importantly, all selected works earn a highly coveted spot in the month-long public group exhibition at the RBSA Gallery from October 1 to October 31, 2026, including an elite preview evening.
Maker Level: Open to all UK-based emerging and established contemporary artists.
Deadline: Tuesday 11th August 2026 at 4:00 PM.
The "Gate-Crasher" Status:
The Portal: Submissions are processed directly through the institutional entry matrix at rbsa.org.uk.
The Shield Strategy: Selection is based on an anonymous digital image evaluation. The panel is looking for visual impact and material integrity.
Direct Action: Artists can submit up to 4 pieces of work. To capture the attention of the jury, ensure your digital entry package bypasses flat lighting. Crop tightly to show the raw, three-dimensional qualities of your mixed media elements.
The Setup Text: In your submission context notes, claim your structural authority: "My practice investigates spatial form by combining unyielding physical textures and structural media. This work is constructed to bring an industrial weight and presence to the gallery space, offering the contemporary panel a physical exploration of modern craftsmanship built to command a room."
